THE BRIDGES
For anyone to be able to play at The Island, there has to be a bridge in place to cross from the bivouac to the field.  There has been a few of these spans.  The first real attempt to make something that could withstand the rainy season on the central coast simply washed away with the first heavy rain.  As a matter of fact, until the log bridge, they all washed away (including the one below) The log bridge still stands today. It spans the Maverick Creek and is a wonder in itself. The telephone poles were placed with only a come-along and muscle power. When we had to move the field across the Parjaro River it was not going to be easy. To say It was quite a challenge is understatement. Through history, the simple span was the hardest to build and keep up.  Floods and natural turbulence constantly erode the base. But Sandman and his crew of Master Marauder Engineers went to work to save the day. Hundreds of pounds of cement were carried in; along with everything else the would need. The span weighs approx. 1000 lbs. and was placed using Havok's truck winch. They ran a steel cable across the river to a pulley and then back again. Predator used the Jeep to keep the whole thing from sliding down the embankment. The steel span was a conveyer for roofing material. Sandman and his dad welded an extension on so the length came out to about 50+ feet. Marauder Engineers took material that were nothing more than a pile of lumber and a junked conveyer and made one of the 7 wonders of the Paintball World!! OOORaaah!!!
